"At the doorstep of Madrid, Chinchón is only a forty-five minute bus ride to the south through rough hills rubbed raw and red-brown with pitted granite outcrops amid impossible olive groves. If you want to step back in time, this is the place to do it. Few places in Europe boast a Medieval village as well preserved."
-The International Writers Magazine: Spain
From Chinchón you are in easy reach of the cities of Aranjuez, Alcala de Henares, the historic, walled town of Cuenca, and Toledo.
One of our week's activities is an excursion through the beautiful Castilian landscape for a day of sightseeing in nearby Aranjuez, famous for its 18th-century palace and the gardens lavishly furnished and enjoyed by Spain's Bourbon kings.
In contrast with the arid landscape of most of Madrid and its surroundings, the Royal Gardens of Aranjuez are green and lush with sparkling fountains throughout.
About Casa de la Marquesa
Just 50 metres from Chinchón's famous Plaza Mayor, this historic building has recently been restored to bring it in line with what guests have come to expect from a modern and well-equipped bed and breakfast.
The Casa has only five rooms, all with spacious en suite bathrooms. Each room has access to a splendid patio with views over the garden and access to the swimming pool.
The breakfast room.
All rooms are equipped with high-speed internet access, television and complete bath en suite. Each room can be arranged with twin beds or a double bed. See room layout here.
The Green Room.
I have a studio in Chinchón and have taught workshops in other parts of Spain. In 2009 I decided, with my friends and neighbors at the Casa Marchesa, to hold the workshop in Chinchón, a beautiful and inspiring place to create art.
After breakfast we meet at my studio, next to the Plaza Mayor, before setting out to paint or sketch. i will be offering individual instruction, and although some experience in painting or drawing is recommended, there can be exceptions. Experienced artists who wish to work more independently are also welcome to participate.
Lunch is in the plaza. Then the famous Spanish siesta!
A relaxing evening in the plaza for dinner (tapas or pizza) and sketching under the stars, if you feel like it. That is something I love to do at the end of the day!
We do not do a trip to Madrid to see the Prado or Thyssen- Bornemisza museums. However if you decide to stay few days longer to visit Madrid, Casa Marchesa will offer you the same rooms at the lower rate we pay for the course. This is a generous offer, a great deal, and one I would highly recommend.
